OUR THERAPEAUTIC STYLE

Therapeutic techniques are tailored to individual needs from a variety of therapeutic approaches, including:

Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT)

A collaborative approach that helps individuals identify unhelpful thoughts, beliefs and behaviours and learn or re-learn healthier skills or habits.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

A therapeutic approach based on values, which draws on mindfulness and acceptance skills to help clients develop a new relationship with difficult thoughts, feelings and emotions, thereby enhancing their psychological health.

Narrative Therapy (NT)

An approach that builds on the idea that people live their lives according to stories they construct about who they are, and what their lives are like.  These stories can act like a lens, filtering out new and different stories that don't fit the main story.  NT uses the stories people bring about themselves and their lives, to re-shape new lenses, new stories, new experiences and new futures.

Interpersonal Therapy (IPT)

An approach that believes the causes of problems can often be traced to aspects of social functioning (work, relationships, social roles) and personality.  The goal of IPT is to help the person understand how these factors are operating in his/her current life situation and make them vulnerable to developing problems.

Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT)

Is a short-term goal focused approach which helps clients change by constructing solutions rather than dwelling on problems.  Elements of the desired solution often are already present in the client's life and become the basis for ongoing change.  The ability to articulate what the changes will be like is often more important than understand what led to the problem.
